About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store in Marion, Illinois, is seeking a part-time Store Worker for 24 hours per week. This role is expected to support the Mission of The Salvation Army by performing all functions of a thrift store worker. Responsibilities include interacting with customers, handling donated and purchased items, sorting and pricing clothes, preparing items for display, operating a cash register, reconciling the cash drawer, and making bank deposits. The majority of the work involves physical labor. Basic communication and math skills are required for making change.

Requirements

High school/equivalent diploma and one-year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.
Ability to comprehend written job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change for items sold and be bondable.
Basic communications with customers and other employees.
Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
Capable of continuously lifting 5 pounds, frequently lifting 25 pounds, occasionally lifting to 50 pounds and frequently moves 50 or more pounds using dolly/cart/truck.

Responsibilities

Interact with customers and other staff in a manner which promotes positive relationships.
Sort donated items.
Price donated items.
Place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
Assist in loading and unloading of the store’s truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors’ vehicles.
Perform clerk/cashier activities.
Perform store custodial duties as directed to include wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, sweep/vacuum/mop floors, carry out trash, etc.
Help keep the showroom clean and neat at all times when the store is open.
