About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports effective inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe working environment, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager assists with store financial controls, employee training, perishable ordering and stock levels, inventory records, markdown analysis, sanitation, and customer needs. The role also performs other operational duties as directed by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- One year of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
- Six months of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery-store experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using company advertising, order, sales-history, and planning tools.
- Train assigned associates in merchandise presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling.
- Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and promptly, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
- Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
