About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery departments. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, safe working conditions, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The position helps maintain perishable inventory and department standards, train associates, monitor markdowns and inventory, and address customer needs. It also supports other store operations as directed by the Store Manager. The job requires frequent physical activity and regular driving to make bank deposits, attend meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review Operating Statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, deposit control, facility and safety controls, inventory management, and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise presentation guidance.
Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

One year of retail experience preferred.
Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and help ensure employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using company ads, planners, order guides, sales history, and related planning tools.
Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, and product rotation standards.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train produce associates on grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner; maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
Help ensure sanitation standards and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
Regularly drive or provide own transportation to make bank deposits, attend meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
