About The Position

Under general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meat, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The position supports the financial integrity and daily operations of the store by following company procedures, maintaining appropriate perishable stock levels, training associates, monitoring markdowns and inventory, and helping ensure sanitation and customer-service standards. Relocation assistance is not available. Applicants must be 21 or older.

Requirements

Must be 21 years old or older.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using the specified ads, planners, order guides, sales history, and ordering tools.
Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
Train assigned associates in proper and safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
