About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role ensures the store is adequately staffed, properly opened and closed, well organized, safe, and compliant with company policies and applicable labor laws. The manager leads customer service, employee development, inventory and merchandise management, cash controls, and store operations. The position involves a fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, and the SAFE program.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
Frequent walking and standing, and frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment, including hand-held scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, and U-boats.
Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
Occasional climbing using a ladder.
Regularly drive or provide personal transportation for bank deposits and occasional travel to meetings or other stores.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, retain, train, and develop qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies.
Conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through solutions or counseling, and recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events supporting safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is properly staffed and effectively opened and closed each day; personally open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, sales and profitability concerns, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; follow up on replenishment and cycle counts.
Oversee merchandise staging, stocking, storage, presentation, pricing, and signage in accordance with company practices.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership for superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and secure store for employees and customers.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Make bank deposits using personal transportation and occasionally travel to management meetings or other Dollar General stores.
