About The Position

Responsible for managing all store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The Store Manager oversees employee recruitment, training, performance, and compliance; maintains store operations, inventory, merchandising, financial controls, customer service, and a safe, organized environment; and ensures required paperwork and documentation are completed on time. The role involves frequent walking or standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling; handling merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 55 pounds; and occasional step-ladder climbing to six feet. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise, occasional outdoor weather exposure, hazardous cleaning solutions, and extreme cold in freezers. Regular use of a personal vehicle is required for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory-management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies, and ensure appropriate store staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and take appropriate action or provide counseling, up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure the store is staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; and follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Ensure merchandise is staged, stocked, and stored efficiently according to company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper fixture use, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools required to perform necessary tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle regularly to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
