About The Position
The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and general store needs. The role provides interactive development for an external candidate preparing for a Store Manager position and is held for a limited period. The candidate assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service leadership, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, store cleanliness and safety, operational reviews, and required documentation. They operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
- Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including those needed to generate reports.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
- Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations where limited standardization exists.
- Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
- Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and the Store Manager’s direction; use fixtures properly and ensure merchandise is signed and priced.
- Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
- Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
- Provide customer service leadership.
- Model compliance with Company procedures and policies, including the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
- Participate in store opening and closing activities.
- Ensure Company funds are safely deposited in the designated bank.
- Assist in maintaining financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
- Assist with maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
- Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
- Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
