About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role provides interactive development for an external candidate preparing for a Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The position assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, and maintaining a clean and safe store. The candidate operates the store in the Store Manager’s absence, reviews operating statements for business trends and opportunities, and completes required paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines. Work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise. The role involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. It also includes regular driving in the employee’s own vehicle to meetings, other stores, and bank deposits, as well as occasional exposure to weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and freezer cold.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions used to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Valid driver’s license.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storage, presentation, and proper use of fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in superior customer service.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are deposited at the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
