About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position provides interactive development for an external candidate pursuing the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The role assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, and maintaining a clean and safe store. The candidate operates the store in the Store Manager’s absence, reviews operating statements to identify trends and opportunities, and completes required paperwork according to guidelines and deadlines. Work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise. Duties involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, handling merchandise and equipment, and lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally. The role also involves occasional ladder climbing, driving a personal vehicle to meetings, other stores, and bank deposits, and occasional exposure to weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions used to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction; properly use fixtures, signs, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are deposited safely in the designated bank.
Help maintain store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends and opportunities involving sales, labor, profitability, inventory turns, expense control, shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
