About The Position

The Store Director is responsible for the total store operations and achieving sales and profit objectives. This role plans, organizes, directs, and controls all store activities and personnel to ensure financial and other objectives are met, consistent with Company policies, procedures, and laws. The Store Director exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job.

Requirements

  • Extensive retail background with prior management experience related to retail operations.

  • Must identify needs, problems, and opportunities and make short- and long-term decisions to maximize sales and gross margins.

  • Knowledge and ability to implement emergency procedures, including response to equipment and computer software malfunctions.
  • Familiar with emergency plans in the event of a natural disaster, serious accident, or uncommon event(s).
  • Must sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally reaches, lifts, stacks, and maneuvers objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Operates, pushes, and pulls fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Must cover temporarily for various positions throughout the store as required.
  • Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • May utilize cleaning supplies and chemicals from time to time.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Scheduled hours will vary.
  • Good attendance is required.
  • Honesty and integrity in performing job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals, handling customer relations positively and resolving complaints effectively.
  • Manages overall store operations, implementing Company and Division merchandising, operating, and sales initiatives.
  • Communicates Company goals, objectives, policies, practices, and procedures to department managers and associates, ensuring compliance.
  • Meets at least weekly with department heads to review ads, sales plans, and store promotions.
  • Coordinates the safety committee and ensures implementation and communication of safety and health initiatives, emphasizing safety and health code compliance.
  • Responsible for maintaining good store conditions, product quality and rotation, labeling standards, and code date compliance.
  • Conducts daily inspections of store conditions and coaches associates.
  • Ensures compliance with Division scheduling initiatives, policies, wage and payroll guidelines, Time Clock Policy, benefit plans, grooming and dress code standards, and employment laws.
  • Directs and participates in the training and hiring of store personnel, providing clear guidance and instruction.
  • Monitors associate job performance and makes personnel decisions (hiring, firing, layoff, promotion, disciplinary action), considering recommendations from Grocery and Drug Managers or Assistant Store Director.
  • Conducts formal associate evaluations and identifies training needs for future development.
  • Builds and maintains positive associate morale.
  • Oversees and ensures compliance with proper cash handling procedures, sales accounting, and safe procedures.
  • Controls shrink and maintains/controls inventory levels.
  • Safeguards Company assets and develops operating budgets, controlling all in-store operating, maintenance, expense, and supply costs.
  • Follows proper administrative procedures and completes required reports.
  • Responsible for accurate inventory of merchandise, supplies, and equipment.
  • Recommends expenditures for store equipment and building improvements or repairs to district management.
  • Properly conducts or oversees inventories and independent audits.
  • Implements emergency procedures for equipment and computer software malfunctions.
  • Creates and maintains positive community relations and communication channels with various personnel and unions.
  • Monitors market conditions, trends, and competitor activities.
  • Reviews and approves all department schedules to ensure appropriate staffing and coverage.
  • Resolves associate complaints, including discrimination and harassment, with HR guidance.
  • Safely operates and handles all equipment and hazardous material.
  • Provides suggestions and feedback to District Sales Manager or Director of Operations on operational, personnel, and other issues.
  • Maintains and safeguards confidentiality of associate, store sales, and Company information.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records.
  • Performs all job duties with honesty and integrity, in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Treats associates consistently, fairly, and with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
