About Putnamville Correctional Facility: Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium‑security facility in Greencastle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,500 incarcerated adult males. Established in 1914, the facility has earned notable environmental and community service awards. Programming includes The Last Mile, which offers training in coding and multimedia production. Additional programs focus on education, parenting, and vocational development. Incarcerated individuals are encouraged to build skills that support re‑entry success. Role Overview: As a Store Clerk, you will perform a wide variety of tasks in the overall operation of the commissary which involves stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods and supplies for incarcerated individuals. This includes transporting supplies from the warehouse to the commissary and supervising incarcerated individuals in assisting with these tasks.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items and inventory control procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables.
  • Ability to train inmates and staff in proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.
  • Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records.
  • Ability to operate forklift, hand-truck and other mechanical equipment in warehouse.
  • Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Authorize the accuracy of all orders received in the storeroom and authorize all goods received.
  • Contact vendors regarding partial shipments and/or misorders.
  • Maintained detailed inventory records and records of items ordered.
  • Evaluate and recognize record-keeping or storage procedures as necessary.
  • Ensure proper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items.
  • Make recommendations on purchase of new equipment for warehouse and maintenance required in building.
  • Oversee and assembles equipment received in “knocked down” condition.
  • May ensure the security of incarcerated individuals staff assigned to the warehouse.
