Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading teams as a people manager or technical lead with clear accountability for delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience with HPC storage or parallel/distributed filesystems (e.g., Lustre or similar), and an understanding of storage/network performance fundamentals (latency, throughput, IOPS, metadata performance).
  • Experience driving software quality: CI/testing strategies, release management, defect triage, and operational excellence for production environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders and clearly articulate risks, timelines, and tradeoffs.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience developing, deploying, or operating Lustre in large-scale production (multi-PB environments), including HA/failover, upgrade strategies, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with data management software and workflows (e.g., policy-driven tiering/migration, HSM integrations, metadata/catalog services, archiving lifecycles).
  • Familiarity with enterprise Linux packaging and distribution (RPM), kernel modules/DKMS, and compatibility across RHEL/SLES variants.
  • Experience with storage hardware/software integration concepts (RAID/erasure coding, NVMe, HDD tiers, networking fabrics such as InfiniBand or high-performance Ethernet).
  • Track record of delivering customer acceptances or field deployments with strong operational readiness and documentation.
  • Experience collaborating in open-source communities and managing upstream/downstream contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers working on Lustre and data management capabilities (including roadmap delivery and sustaining engineering).
  • Own technical execution for releases: backlog planning, sprint execution, quality gates, and on-time delivery with measurable improvements in stability and performance.
  • Drive architecture, design reviews, and technical decision-making for filesystem features, integrations, and operational tooling (e.g., packaging, upgrade/compatibility, automation).
  • Partner with product management, program management, system engineering, QA/test, and customer teams to translate requirements and statements of work into executable plans.
  • Own customer-facing engineering outcomes: acceptance readiness, performance tuning, and rapid response to field escalations; ensure effective root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Establish and improve engineering processes (e.g., secure development practices, CI/CD, code review discipline, issue triage, defect prevention, documentation readiness).
  • Manage dependencies across platform components (Linux distributions, kernels, OFED, networking stacks, firmware) and ensure compatibility across supported environments.
  • Manage staffing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and team culture; build a healthy pipeline of talent and succession plans.
  • Communicate status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership; proactively escalate issues and drive cross-team alignment to resolution.
