Stop Data Centers Canvass Director
About The Position
Food & Water Watch is seeking a Stop Data Centers Canvass Director to lead a canvass operation in the Lehigh Valley. This role will involve educating and engaging residents on the issue of data centers, which are proposed to increase electricity costs and regional pollution. The organization has a history of successfully stopping such projects and other environmental threats in Pennsylvania. This is a full-time, temporary position running through November 6, 2026, based in Lehigh County, PA. The campaign will be run remotely with regular field meetups for training and materials. The Director will report to the Political Director and collaborate with other staff members.
Requirements
- At least one election cycle canvassing and/or organizing experience (electoral or issue organizing).
- Familiarity with VAN or a similar voter database tool.
Nice To Haves
- One election cycle canvass directing or one year organizing on an issue advocacy campaign.
- Experience training others.
- Experience with using Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets to track work.
- Knowledge of the region.
- Relationships with organizers and potential canvassers in the area.
- Strong interest in Food & Water Watch issues and commitment to social change.
- Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills.
- Desire to develop campaign organizing skills.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and hire canvassers, publicizing the application and following up with applicants.
- Train canvassers to effectively conduct canvassing conversations.
- Cut and assign turf using VAN, creating walk lists for canvassers.
- Analyze canvasser performance by running VAN reports and tracking collected petitions and pledge cards.
- Perform quality control by checking submitted data for errors.
- Schedule and track hours, working with the Finance team for timely canvasser payment.
- Complete at least one canvass shift per week.
- Manage logistics, including daily transportation plans for canvassers and identifying meetup locations.
