About The Position

It is our honor and privilege to provide comfort and care to Ohio's heroes — wartime veterans from all across the state and all branches of service. The Ohio Veterans Homes, part of Ohio Department of Veterans Services, are trauma-informed care long-term care focused on providing excellent care to Ohio’s Veterans. The Veteran Homes provide direct nursing home care at facilities in Sandusky and Georgetown as well as domiciliary living to qualified veterans in Sandusky. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).
  • Or in positions at Veteran Services in addition to above must possess STNA certification &/or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.
  • For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with eating, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, communications, assist with feeding
  • Transport and attends activities or programs with residents
  • Complete various daily, monthly, and other required documentation
  • Observe & report any changes in symptoms, behaviors, accidents, incidents or injuries to charge nurse
  • Perform light housekeeping duties in the living areas
  • Applies safety & infection control measures
  • Assists with redirecting unsafe actions to bring about positive outcomes
  • Assist nursing personnel with admission, discharge & transfer of residents
