About The Position

The State of Ohio Veterans Homes, part of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, are trauma-informed care long-term care facilities focused on providing excellent care to Ohio’s Veterans. The Veteran Homes provide direct nursing home care at facilities in Sandusky and Georgetown as well as domiciliary living to qualified veterans in Sandusky. We aim to maintain an inclusive work environment and commit ourselves to develop talented, inclusive, and dedicated employees. This role involves direct care for residents, assisting them with daily living skills and other needs, varying based on individual requirements. The position may involve working weekends and mandatory overtime, and exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).
  • Or in positions at Veteran Services in addition to above must possess STNA certification &/or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.
  • For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the United States and completion of the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Details of minimum qualifications must be provided on the application form.
  • New hires agree to participate in the State of Ohio Direct Deposit of Paycheck Program per Section 124.151(B) of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Successful completion of a criminal records check as required by Section 3721.121 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • All employees whose employment commenced on or after June 5, 2002, and is paid by a warrant issued by the Auditor of State, must have his or her compensation directly deposited in the institution of their choice.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with eating, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, communications, and feeding.
  • Transport and attends activities or programs with residents.
  • Complete various daily, monthly, and other required documentation.
  • Observe & report any changes in symptoms, behaviors, accidents, incidents or injuries to charge nurse.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties in the living areas.
  • Applies safety & infection control measures.
  • Assists with redirecting unsafe actions to bring about positive outcomes.
  • Assist nursing personnel with admission, discharge & transfer of residents.
