About The Position

Stewards at Hemingway's Tavern help maintain a clean, welcoming, and efficiently run dining environment. They support servers, bartenders, hosts, and Back-of-the-House teams by keeping service ware and Guest-facing areas stocked, sanitized, and ready throughout the shift. The role is a visible representative of the restaurant's hospitality and supports both dining-room and BOH service areas.

The position primarily operates in the dining room and Guest service areas and regularly interacts with Guests. It requires standing and walking for the full shift, frequent bending, stooping, and reaching, and repeatedly lifting, carrying, and safely maneuvering trays, tubs, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may involve varying temperatures, damp conditions, cleaning and sanitizing solutions, and indoor or outdoor conditions in varying Florida weather as operational needs require.

• Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and safely maneuver trays, tubs, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity for safe handling of dishes, glassware, trays, and service equipment.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and damp conditions, and indoors or outdoors in varying Florida weather as operational needs require.
• Ability to frequently wash hands and use cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
• Food Handler certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Food Handler certification preferred.
• Prior restaurant experience is a plus, but not required; training is provided to the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Greet and acknowledge Guests warmly and maintain a visible, approachable presence on the dining floor.
• Bus and reset tables promptly to restaurant standards.
• Keep Guest-facing areas clean, dry, and safe, and address spills and hazards immediately.
• Stock and maintain clean restrooms and hand-washing stations.
• Promptly collect soiled dishware, glassware, and silverware from the dining room and keep tables and service stations clear and supplied.
• Clean and sanitize dishware, glassware, and silverware and return them to service-ready condition.
• Inspect service ware for cleanliness and presentation before it reaches the table.
• Monitor and replenish service stations with clean glassware, silverware, and dishware throughout the shift.
• Maintain and sanitize service equipment and supply areas.
• Proactively support servers and bartenders by anticipating their needs.
• Communicate with server and host teams to support table turns, seating flow, and Guest satisfaction.
• Respond promptly and positively to Guest requests, resolve concerns quickly, and escalate them to management when appropriate.
• Complete assigned side work, restocking, and additional duties as directed by management.
• Follow company safety, sanitation, and food-handling standards.
