Surgical Services - Sterile Processing Tech (SPT)
About The Position
The Sterile Processing Tech works across all areas of the department at a busy Level One trauma facility. Duties and experience include decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and scope processing, sterile storage, and OR liaison work. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with occasional scheduled holidays, and may require floating to other locations. Candidates must have at least three years of experience in a facility similar to OSU and either CBSPD or CRCST certification. Previous permanent staff and return travelers are not eligible for return anywhere in the OSU system. Travelers who reach the one-year maximum contract limit are not eligible for extensions or future assignments.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience in a facility similar to OSU.
- Experience with all areas of the department, including decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and scope processing, sterile storage, and OR liaison work.
- Either CBSPD or CRCST certification; CRCST must be through HSPA, formerly IAHCSMM.
- Previous permanent staff and return travelers are ineligible for return anywhere in the OSU system.
- Travelers who reach the one-year maximum contract limit are ineligible for extensions or future assignments.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate all items, including drills, Da Vinci equipment, and scopes.
- Assemble instruments across all service lines, including trauma instruments, loaners, and peel packaging.
- Perform sterilization processes using Sterrad and steam.
- Perform high-level disinfection and scope processing.
- Maintain sterile storage.
- Serve as an OR liaison.
- Use the Censitrac tracking system.
- Float to other locations when required.
