About The Position

Uncommon Schools is seeking an experienced step coach for Uncommon Collegiate Charter High School. This part-time role is responsible for all aspects of the competitive step team, including identifying tournaments, registration, tryouts, motivating and preparing students, and communicating progress to school leaders. The goal is to provide students with an edge for college admissions and persistence through nationally recognized competitive programs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and conduct up to 6 hours of practice per week, plus up to 2 hours per week for project preparation, competitions, and after-school practices.
  • Conduct long-term coaching during “Projects” with students for 1 hour each on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from August to June.
  • On average, conduct at least 6 hours of practice outside of school hours weekly to prepare students for competition.
  • Internal employees who also serve as coaches are responsible for the preparation and communication about any absences caused by team tournaments during their standard work hours.
  • Research and identify appropriate competitions and tournaments.
  • Sign up for competitions in partnership with the school-based Student Talent Manager.
  • Coach and travel with students to at least 6 weekend tournaments over a 6-month period, with at least one competition recognized on a national level.
  • Chaperone students to at least 2 regional/local competitions that serve as preparation for the national competition.
  • Confirm team member commitment via signed parent permission form indicating after-school commitment.
  • Establish a family communication protocol using the Remind app to update families about competition, after-school practices, and other club-related activities, in partnership with the school-based Student Talent Manager.
