About The Position

Uncommon Schools is seeking an experienced step coach for Uncommon Collegiate Charter High School. This part-time role is responsible for all aspects of the competitive step team, including tournament identification, registration, tryouts, student motivation and preparation, and progress reporting to school leaders. The goal is to provide students with an edge for college admissions and persistence through nationally recognized competitive programs. The coach will report to the Student Talent Manager.

Requirements

  • Experience as a step coach.
  • Ability to identify and register for competitions.
  • Skills in motivating and preparing students.
  • Willingness to communicate progress to school leaders.
  • Ability to commit to up to 6 hours of practice per week.
  • Availability for at least 6 weekend tournaments over a 6-month period.
  • Willingness to travel with students to competitions.
  • Ability to chaperone students to competitions.
  • Proficiency in using the Remind app for family communication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and conduct up to 6 hours of practice per week, including 1 hour each on Tuesdays and Thursdays from August to June.
  • Spend up to 2 hours per week preparing for projects, competitions, and after-school practices.
  • Conduct at least 6 hours of practice outside of school hours weekly to prepare students for competition.
  • Research and identify appropriate competitions and tournaments.
  • Sign up for competitions in partnership with the school-based Student Talent Manager.
  • Coach and travel with students to all competitions.
  • Ensure at least one competition is recognized on a national level, with regional/district qualifiers leading to national competition.
  • Chaperone students to at least 2 regional/local competitions as preparation for the national competition.
  • Confirm team member commitment via signed parent permission forms, acknowledging after-school commitment.
  • Establish a family communication protocol using the Remind app to update families about competition, practices, and other club-related activities outside of school hours.
