About The Position

The Center for Educational Outreach (CEO) within the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a STEM Outreach Project Analyst. CEO has a significant impact on the future science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM leaders from underrepresented groups. Our mission is to engage JHU faculty and students to inspire and prepare PK-12 students in STEM education and careers. CEO is the resource for Johns Hopkins University STEM faculty and students looking to do STEM educational outreach for PK-12 students or teachers in Baltimore City Public Schools. This role will report to the Assistant Director of Programming and Innovation and be responsible for and/or supporting the implementation, volunteer management, logistical support, promotion, recruitment of Baltimore City schools and/or students, compliance, data collection, and program/project evaluation for a number of the Center's suite of in-school, after-school, weekend, and summer programs, projects, and events including, but not limited to, Campus Outings, Family Engineering Day, Whiting Internships in Science and Engineering, Charm City STEM League, and Tower of Power. Local travel to off-site events, Baltimore City school buildings, and businesses required. The Project Analyst coordinates project tasks and provides project management support to one or more project teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three years of related experience with some project management experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Professional Certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in education, STEM, or related field.
  • Five years progressive responsible experience in PK-12 education (formal or informal), project management in an academic environment, youth development, educational outreach, and/or mentoring.
  • Experience in recruitment and management of ten or more staff and/or volunteers supporting long-term programming.
  • Experience in higher education program coordination and/or administration.
  • Experience in hiring undergraduate and/or staff to support long-term programming.
  • Knowledge of Give Pulse or other volunteer management system.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point person for the creation of project definitions, budgets, timelines, milestones, communication plans, and schedules to determine scope and set timelines for assigned projects.
  • Participate in project design meetings, propose new ideas/innovations to support the project goals.
  • Implement project management best practices and process improvements to support project scope, activities, schedules, budgets, issues, solutions, etc.
  • Identify potential problems and roadblocks to success, develop and evaluate solutions to issues that arise.
  • Plan and manage team goals, propose timeline edits/updates as the project progresses.
  • Prepare reports in various formats for projects sponsors and/or stakeholders, may present on project status or milestones.
  • May draft and direct project communications/correspondence; prepare and review proposals, memos, RFP’s, etc.
  • Review project requirements and identify external vendors or services needed.
  • Ensure the project stays within budget, monitor expenses and implement cost saving measures.
  • Delegate project tasks and ensure that work is completed in alignment with the project timeline.
  • Schedule cross-functional meetings to ensure collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation including contracts, invoices, data records, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure all mentors have completed the volunteer registration, child safety training and background check/fingerprinting process.
  • Host recruitment events where potential volunteers/mentors can learn about the experience and speak with past mentors and current staff regarding the programs/projects and commitment.
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers/mentors to share updates regarding the programs/projects to address any concerns and receive feedback regarding their experiences.
  • Observe volunteers/mentors on site to make improvements to programs/projects.
  • Meet with new and existing community partners to gather input on needs.
  • Recruit and train volunteers and/or special guests for field trips, campus tours, and other outreach events.
  • Collaborate on creating and distribution of evaluation surveys for programs/events.
  • Coordinate focus groups, if needed, for program evaluation.
