About The Position

INNOVIM seeks an Educational Outreach Specialist to support NOAA’s Outreach Center. This position is contingent upon the successful award of the contract. Location: Onsite Silver Spring, MD Relocation Assistance: NONE

Requirements

  • Have experience directing and leading others.
  • Must have a Master’s degree in education, communications, or related fields.
  • Must have 8-10 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operations of the NOAA Outreach Center including maintaining over approximately 100 collections of major education and outreach products from across the Agency; designing and developing an estimated 3 to 5 new education and outreach products, on an annual basis, to fill gaps and respond to audience needs; disseminating such products to educators, students, and the public; responding to general public inquiries about NOAA and NOAA education; providing guidance and expert advice to NOAA staff engaged in public outreach activities.
  • Serves as the National Outreach Coordinator for Office of Education. Works closely with Office’s Communications lead to develop and implement a coordinated approach for communications and outreach. Participates in NOAA Education Council meetings and coordinates educational outreach efforts across the Agency.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support NOAA education participation in education conferences, meetings, workshops, civic events, etc. Coordinate with internal and external partners as needed.
  • Work closely with the Office of Education Communications team to ensure a coordinated approach for education outreach and communications efforts for NOAA’s Office of Education and the NOAA education community.
  • Support the NOAA Education web portal and maintain thematic collections of education content from education efforts across the Agency.
  • Conduct at least one annual needs assessment and coordinate at least one focus group with members of target audiences to understand their needs and to get their input on new or existing education and outreach products.
  • Develop concepts and designs for exhibits and coordinate fabrication and installation of such exhibits.
  • Support the design and development of outreach products in other media, such as video, audio, podcasts, etc. to promote NOAA education to target audiences.
  • Support intra-agency and inter-agency education efforts under the NOAA Education Council, NOAA Research Council, Interagency Working Group on Ocean Education, and other internal or external committees of groups. Respond to email, telephone, postal mail, and in-person education and outreach inquiries from NOAA staff, educators, students, researchers, and members of the public.
  • Support outreach initiatives from across the agency (e.g., NOAA Ambassadors).
