About The Position

The STEM Instructional Coach is responsible for providing instructional leadership, coaching, and support to teachers serving students with diverse learning, behavioral, social-emotional, and communication needs. This role partners with educators to strengthen mathematics and science instruction, implement high-quality, standards-based curriculum, and create engaging, accessible learning experiences that promote critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving for all students. The STEM Instructional Coach demonstrates expertise in evidence-based instructional practices for students with disabilities and a strong understanding of restorative practices to support inclusive, relationship-centered classrooms where students feel safe, valued, and successful. The STEM Instructional Coach collaborates with teachers to analyze student learning, differentiate instruction, implement evidence-based teaching practices, and effectively utilize instructional resources to improve student outcomes in mathematics and science. The coach works alongside teachers to support lesson planning, instructional delivery, assessment practices, and data-driven decision-making while ensuring instruction is responsive to students' individualized learning needs. In addition, the STEM Instructional Coach helps teachers build their leadership capacity within the classroom, effectively collaborate with and support direct support staff, and integrate restorative practices into daily classroom routines to strengthen student engagement, self-regulation, and positive relationships. The STEM Instructional Coach facilitates professional learning opportunities, models effective instructional strategies, conducts classroom observations, provides timely and constructive feedback, and offers individualized coaching to support continuous professional growth. The coach may also provide coaching and professional learning related to restorative practices, supporting staff in implementing restorative strategies that build community, strengthen relationships, and respond to conflict in meaningful and productive ways. Working collaboratively with school leadership, the STEM Instructional Coach helps foster a culture of reflective practice, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement while advancing schoolwide initiatives in STEM instruction, special education best practices, trauma-informed education, and restorative practices.

Requirements

  • Connecticut teaching certification with an endorsement in Elementary Education, Special Education, Mathematics, or Science.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mathematics and/or science instruction.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, differentiation, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and supporting paraprofessionals or instructional assistants.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving as an instructional coach, mentor teacher, department leader, or curriculum leader.
  • Experience facilitating professional learning and providing instructional coaching.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing Restorative Practices and trauma-informed educational practices.
  • Master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, special education, or a related field.
