About The Position

Do you enjoy helping kids ask big questions, try new ideas, and discover how fun learning can be? Join the La Crosse Area Family YMCA as a STEM Coach and bring science, technology, engineering, and math to life for youth through hands-on activities, creative problem-solving, and encouraging mentorship. This part-time role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with young people, building confidence, and making learning feel exciting, welcoming, and accessible. This is a part-time role supporting YMCA youth STEM programming in La Crosse and Onalaska. Schedule may vary based on program needs, school-year programming, special events, and seasonal opportunities.

Requirements

Interest in STEM education, youth development, hands-on learning, or related programming.
Ability to lead activities, give clear instructions, and adapt lessons for different ages, abilities, and learning styles.
Positive, patient, dependable, and encouraging approach with youth and families.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a supportive team.
Ability to respond to common questions or concerns from participants, members, staff, administration, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with youth in a school, camp, childcare, after-school, recreation, mentoring, or similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead engaging STEM activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Create a fun, inclusive, and learning environment where every participant feels welcome and supported.
Help youth build confidence as they explore science, technology, engineering, math, and real-world applications.
Prepare materials, set up activities, and keep program spaces organized, clean, and ready for learning.
