Steel Fabricator/Pipe Welder

About The Position

Fit and weld pipe and fittings. Read and interpret blueprints/drawings for welding process specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene equipment. Operate flame-cutting and plasma cutting equipment. Ensure that safe work practices are maintained. Assist in development of estimates and time allotted. Conduct inspections, repairs, modifications and retrofits. Monitor standard parts usage and report to the Welder Supervisor on any material issues. Provide daily updates to the Welder Supervisor on job progression and tracking.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in the steel fabrication industry, particularly pipe fitting.
  • Extensive experience with Stainless Steel and Aluminum
  • Proficient with Victaulic grooving machine and Ridgid Beveller considered an asset
  • Rigging/overhead crane certification preferred but will train/certify
  • Citation in Welding Level ‘B’ with Red Seal Certification required
  • Skilled in operating mechanical equipment.
  • Competent in safe work practices while operating while operating various machines and tools
  • The ability to produce "X-ray" quality welds on demand
  • Valid welding certification with CWB W47.1, W47.2 in GMAW, FCAW, or GTAW preferred
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently in a busy shop environment
  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach above and below waist
  • Physical ability to lift UP to 50lbs
  • Must have all applicable safety equipment such as welding helmet, etc.
  • Forklift experience (certification is an asset)
  • Basic computer knowledge is required
