About The Position

Nashville General Hospital seeks to hire an experienced Stationary Engineer. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical facility systems within a healthcare environment. Ensures the safe and efficient performance of boilers, generators, refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems, mechanical infrastructure, and Building Automation Systems (BAS) while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards. This position primarily works daytime hours; however, flexibility may be required based on operational or facility needs. The role combines system oversight with hands-on preventative maintenance and repair work, with approximately one-third of the position dedicated to field-based maintenance and equipment support throughout the facility. Ideal experience includes managing automated building systems and HVAC mechanical operations in large facilities such as hospitals, hotels, commercial buildings, or industrial campuses.

Requirements

  • EPA Universal Certification required
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License required
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Building Automation Systems (BAS) required
  • Strong understanding of HVAC mechanical systems, boilers, generators, refrigeration systems, and automated building controls

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education
  • Boiler Operator License preferred
  • 9–14 years of experience in stationary engineering, healthcare facilities maintenance, plant operations, commercial building maintenance, or industrial maintenance preferred
  • Experience with JCI Metasys, Siemens systems, fire alarm systems, and PRIMEX preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare facility compliance standards including The Joint Commission, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 99 Healthcare Facilities Code, and ASHRAE 170 preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, generators, HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, and mechanical equipment
  • Monitor and manage Building Automation Systems (BAS), controls, meters, gauges, and alarms to ensure optimal system performance
  • Respond to equipment faults and perform corrective repairs
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and document completed work
  • Analyze equipment failures and determine repair or replacement needs
  • Prepare operating reports and monitor equipment performance metrics
  • Support compliance with healthcare facility standards and safety regulations
