About The Position

The primary function of a Stationary Engineer 1 is to provide skilled journey level operations and maintenance support for the generation and distribution of high-pressure steam campus wide. This position reports to the Energy Manager and is based out of the central heating plant which operates 24/7. Stationary engineers that work after hours provide support to the fire systems team and 800 shift technicians when needed and as their duties allow.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience operating and maintaining a high-pressure boiler system and auxiliary equipment which shows:
  • Knowledge of high-pressure steam boiler systems operations.
  • Knowledge of safety practices while operating and maintaining boiler systems and auxiliary equipment.
  • Knowledge of how to perform chemical analysis of water.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with building automation control systems; Siemens (Apogee) or Johnson Controls (Metasys).
  • State of Oregon class III boiler/building service mechanic license.
  • E.P.A. certification for handling refrigerants.
  • State of Oregon Restricted Energy Electrician’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the high-pressure steam generating boilers and maintains accurate operating logs.
  • Adjusts the boiler operations to maintain efficiency.
  • Maintains the operation of steam distribution, condensate return equipment, and perimeter heating equipment.
  • Monitors the medical gas distribution system and underground storage tank monitors (diesel).
  • Responds to trouble calls from campus dispatch and other facilities groups.
  • Performs planned and corrective maintenance on steam boilers, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, meters, mechanical, pneumatic control components, valves, piping, and steam traps, blowers, refractory, flow meters, conveyor equipment, gauges and de-aerating feed tanks.
  • Utilizes precision measuring devices including micrometers, calipers, electrical test meters, compressed gas analysis equipment, dial indicators and electronic temperature sensors.
  • Performs water analyses to determine the chemical and mechanical water treatment necessary to maintain established parameters.
  • Assists OHSU facilities groups and contractors in the performance of their tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
