About The Position

The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains one or more systems that provide services such as heat, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam/high temp water or electricity. Duties involve: observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system’s operation, adjusting controls to ensure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided, recording in logs various aspects of the system’s operation, keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. The Engineer may direct and coordinate activities of other workers in performing tasks.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • At least two (2) years’ Stationary Engineering experience in an environment with boilers and steam.
  • Possess and maintain an active Maryland 1st Class Stationary Engineer License or equivalent in good standing.
  • Demonstrate competency performing identified job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability and willing to work other shifts as needed.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.

  • Possess the required security clearance.
  • Completion of a formal stationary engineering training program.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all boilers and associated systems.
  • Conducts regular tours of equipment areas, reading meters and gauges, listing to machinery and adjusting controls for safe and efficient operation of systems and to meet service demands.
  • Monitor conditions throughout system and system supply areas for proper operation and adjust controls accordingly to meet service demands.
  • Responsible for locating source of trouble on system break downs and malfunctions and making all necessary repairs. Replace or modify defective parts/components, fabricate new parts and/or completely overhaul equipment.
  • Generate reports and logs of repairs, installations, test results, instrument readings and any preventive maintenance work performed.
  • Complete and record all work activities timely, accurately and completely.
  • Provides emergency site response for system issues.
  • Performs stock inventories and prepares material requisitions for associated items.
  • Safely operates customer and company vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Performs various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
  • Supports other department or trade groups in daily operations as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to company and customer safety, personnel and practice policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
