About The Position
VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in correctional healthcare, has an opening for a Statewide Psychiatric Director at our Regional Office in Kansas! We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Psychiatric Director to provide statewide clinical leadership and psychiatric oversight for correctional healthcare services throughout the state of Kansas. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing psychiatric services across multiple correctional facilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based behavioral healthcare to an underserved patient population. The Statewide Psychiatric Director will collaborate closely with facility leadership, medical providers, behavioral health teams, and operational partners to support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, provider mentorship, and continuity of care across the system. This position combines direct clinical oversight with strategic leadership and program development.
Requirements
- Must have current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Kansas.
- Must be Board Certified in Psychiatry.
- Must have valid unrestricted DEA License.
- Must have Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Must have knowledge of managed healthcare systems, medical quality assurance, quality improvement and risk management is required
- Must have experience in launching and managing innovative medical programs including developing, conducting, and evaluating program audits.
- Must have experience working with information technology staff to implement and manage sophisticated practice management and/or EHR software packages is required.
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be proficient with use of Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be a supportive team member who contributes to and demonstrates teamwork and team concept.
- Able to deal tactfully with personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Possess leadership and supervisory ability and be able to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric leadership and clinical oversight for behavioral health services across multiple correctional facilities throughout Kansas
- Develop, implement, and monitor psychiatric policies, procedures, and clinical best practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable state, federal, accreditation, and contractual standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary leadership teams to improve patient outcomes and continuity of care
- Supervise, mentor, and support psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and behavioral health staff
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and utilization management processes
- Assist with provider recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management
- Review complex psychiatric cases and provide clinical consultation as needed
- Support crisis intervention efforts and behavioral health programming initiatives
- Analyze clinical data and trends to identify opportunities for operational and clinical improvement
- Maintain appropriate clinical documentation standards and medication management oversight
- Participate in statewide leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives
