About The Position

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking employees for hundreds of temporary positions for the 13-Day New York State Fair! The annual State Fair, held for 13 days from August 26, 2026, to September 7, 2026, preserves and enhances the agricultural legacy of the State of New York and promotes current and future agricultural awareness. The State Fair hosts statewide competitions in the breeding and showing of horses and livestock, and the production of quality wine, vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, flowers, forage, and grain. Likewise, the Fair also hosts competitions for the youth of New York State that include horses, livestock, horticulture, robotics, dogs, sports, talent, and general economics. Join our team for the 2026 Great New York State Fair! Temporary staff are essential to making the Fair a success. These dynamic, hands-on roles often involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, with full-time scheduling options available depending on the department.

Requirements

  • 8-hour security course completion certificate, unexpired security guard license, active military member, or active or retired police officer (for Bag Check positions).
  • 16-hour New York State Security Guard License, active military member, or active or retired police officer (for Chevy Security positions).
  • CDL Class B License with a "P" Endorsement (for Tram Driver positions).
  • Professional demeanor and ability to warmly welcome and interact with guests, including those with sensory-processing differences, autism, PTSD, or other conditions (for Sensory Room positions).
  • Attentiveness, customer focus, and ability to provide a positive experience (for State Fair Merchandise Truck positions).
  • Professionalism, approachability, and ability to assist guests (for Camping staff positions).
  • Customer service skills and ability to handle cash transactions (for Potato Booth positions).
  • Organization and customer focus (for Events positions).

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning barns and tending to animals in agricultural departments (poultry, rabbits, beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses).
  • Welcoming guests, providing information about facilities, programs, and services.
  • Reviewing and scanning tickets at entry points.
  • Assisting guests while following all safety protocols.
  • Guarding entry points, verifying visitors' credentials, and checking bags.
  • Performing security services at concert locations.
  • Assisting passengers on and off trams.
  • Safely transporting passengers on a truck-pulled wagon to and from tram stops.
  • Monitoring and assisting guests in inclusive sensory programming areas.
  • Assisting with the sale of New York State Fair-themed merchandise, operating the Point of Sale (POS) system, maintaining inventory, and ensuring merchandise is stocked.
  • Assisting with campground operations, ensuring guests have proper credentials, verifying access, and providing directions.
  • Baking potatoes and preparing toppings, maintaining a clean and safe environment, providing customer service, and handling cash transactions.
  • Managing the logistics of special events, greeting and hosting entertainment, speaking to groups, and completing necessary paperwork.
