About The Position

POLITICO is seeking an experienced editor with impeccable judgment for a 12-month, 4-day-per-week contract position. This role is part of the growing global standards and ethics team, focused on ensuring the integrity of journalism across all platforms and strengthening reader trust. The editor will uphold POLITICO’s editorial values, ensuring authoritative, nonpartisan, and fair journalism. This position involves providing an essential quality check on all work, setting guidelines, and assisting journalists in resolving ethical questions in real-time. The role requires hands-on collaboration with other editors on pre-publication reporting and reviews of sensitive content, as well as addressing day-to-day ethical issues. The editor will also take a lead role in writing and updating newsroom policies and stylebook entries, and will work with others on training and development programs for journalists. This 32-hours-a-week position can be based in Arlington, VA, New York, NY, or Sacramento, CA, with a strong preference for working Eastern Standard Time evenings.

Responsibilities

Serve as a hands-on editor who can offer pre-publication guidance on stories
Address and resolve issues related to our journalism after it is published
Help research and write newsroom policies on ethics and professional behavior and stylebook entries
Assist in designing training and development programs for POLITICO journalists
