About The Position

The CAD Designer – Construction Staging supports transportation infrastructure delivery in Hamilton, ON, Canada, contributing to the Hamilton LRT corridor project within a hybrid work model. This role focuses on the production and coordination of staging and traffic management drawings aligned with engineering design intent. The position operates within a multidisciplinary environment, translating design markups into detailed plan sets that support phased construction, traffic operations, and temporary works. Responsibilities span drawing production, revision management, document control, and coordination across roadway, transit, and utility disciplines. Work contributes to design development and implementation phases within a large-scale urban corridor.

Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of CAD drafting and design experience in transportation, traffic, roadway, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, CAD/BIM certification, or equivalent technical training.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads.
  • Experience producing engineering plan sets, construction staging drawings, and technical design documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of plan production workflows, including external references (Xrefs), base mapping, alignments, annotation, and sheet layouts.
  • Experience incorporating design revisions and markups into multidisciplinary drawing packages.
  • Ability to coordinate CAD drawings with multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate, high-quality drawing packages.
  • Effective organizational, time-management, and communication skills in a project delivery environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with temporary traffic control design, work zone layouts, detour plans, and construction phasing drawings.
  • Experience working on large-scale transit or urban corridor infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of traffic staging standards and municipal transportation design guidelines.
  • Exposure to BIM workflows or digital design coordination environments.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed staging and traffic management drawing packages for the Hamilton LRT project, converting design markups into clear, accurate, and coordinated plan sheets.
  • Prepare staging plans that illustrate lane configurations, traffic detours, staging limits, work zones, pedestrian routing, cyclist accommodations, and temporary traffic control measures.
  • Support staging designers, traffic engineers, and project teams by implementing revisions and maintaining up-to-date drawing packages throughout project development.
  • Manage drawing updates, revisions, and document control activities to ensure consistency across all corridor segments.
  • Coordinate staging drawings with roadway, transit, utility, and other multidisciplinary design teams to identify and resolve conflicts.
  • Develop and maintain CAD files, external references, base mapping, alignments, linework, annotation, and sheet layouts in accordance with project standards.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with established CAD standards, drafting procedures, project specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews to verify drawing accuracy, completeness, readability, and consistency.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and support efficient delivery of large, corridor-wide staging packages.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of CAD workflows, standards, and production processes.
