About The Position

Serve as lead for the stagehand crew for events in the Midwest Trust Center (MTC), ensuring events, performances, and productions are smoothly executed in a memorable and seamless fashion. Execute setups and changeovers of the performance spaces between events. Assist users of the performance spaces, including Johnson County Community College staff, students, rental clients, and community members. Work under the supervision of the Technical Director, Chief Audio Engineer, and Master Electrician and in close collaboration with the production team and other crew members. Conduct maintenance duties for the facilities and equipment as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise, ensuring equipment functions correctly at all times. Keep the stage, backstage, and other work areas clean and organized, with all props and materials stored in the correct location.

Requirements

• May mentor less-experienced team members.
• Typically requires 5+ years of related experience.
• Electrics - Set up and operate lighting instruments and equipment.
• Sound - Setup and operation of all sound equipment.
• Wardrobe - Work with costumes. Prepare them for use by cleaning and repairing them. Assist performers in changing costumes during the show.
• Properties - Responsible for Set Decorations and any hand-held items used by performers during the show. Repair props and decorations for touring shows.
• Video – Set up and operate video elements, including Video Walls/Screens, projectors, media servers, cameras, and video switchers.
• Carpentry – Set up and operate staging equipment, trusses, scenery, and backdrops.
• Stage Management- This position is the primary source of communication between the crew, both front and back of the house, and the performers and participants of an event. The crew relies on this position to know when any given aspect of a performance will change. This position is also responsible for evacuating anyone on stage during an emergency and creating post-event paperwork for future reference and billing purposes.

Nice To Haves

• Spotlight Operator – Followspots are large, manually operated lighting fixtures. Operators manually move these fixtures, taking real-time directions from Lighting Directors, Lighting Console Operators, or Stage managers.
• Lighting Console Programmer - Computerized lighting consoles are used to program the complex lighting cues for any event. This position manually programs each change into the console and then runs the console during the performance.
• Front of House Sound Console - This position mixes the main speakers' sound from the audience's perspective.
• Monitor Sound Console - This position mixes the sound for the monitor speakers for use by the performers on stage.
• Recording Engineer – This position mixes the event separately when live events are recorded for later use.
• Media Server Operator / Projectionist- This position operates a computerized media server, connected to a projector or video wall, that provides the video content and effects during a performance.
• Video Switcher Operator- Operates a computerized switching system for live cameras for recording or projecting content during an event.
• Camera Operator- Operates live cameras during an event.
• Flyperson- Operates all aspects of the counterweight rigging system (fly-rail), including loading and unloading counterweight, scenery, curtains, and lighting instruments. The fly-rail is used during setup and strike, but also during performances as various scenery moves in and out of place during a performance.
• Rigger- Work at heights sometimes exceeding 70ft, installing chain hoists for lifting exceptionally heavy loads like trussing.

• Execute setups and changeovers of the performance spaces between events.
• Assist users of the performance spaces, including Johnson County Community College staff, students, rental clients, and community members.
• Work under the supervision of the Technical Director, Chief Audio Engineer, and Master Electrician and in close collaboration with the production team and other crew members.
