About The Position

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a skilled and dependable Stage Hand to provide technical support for theatrical rehearsals, performances, concerts, and special events at City Springs and the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. The Stage Hand plays an important role in the successful production of events by preparing, setting up, operating, and maintaining stage systems and equipment. Responsibilities may include rigging, stage carpentry, lighting, audio/video, scenic elements, and other theatrical equipment. This position works closely with visiting artists, performers, production crews, lighting designers, producers, and other event professionals to ensure each event is safely and successfully executed. The ideal candidate is proactive, safety-conscious, customer-service oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced event environment with changing schedules and production needs.

Requirements

  • Two to five (2–5) years of experience in live audio production, event production, theatrical production, or a closely related field.
  • Valid driver's license with at least two (2) years of good driving history.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on event needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully complete a post-offer background check and drug screen.
  • Knowledge of theatrical production practices, stage equipment, and event operations.
  • Ability to safely operate and work around stage, lighting, audio, rigging, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans, production schedules, contracts, and riders.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and production issues and exercise sound judgment in unexpected situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with performers, production professionals, City staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet event deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive, professional attitude.
  • Ability to work safely in a dynamic environment with moderate physical demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in audio production, theater production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of, experience in, or strong interest in arts and culture.
  • Experience working in a performing arts center, theater, concert venue, or similar live-event environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, set up, operate, and strike stage equipment for events at City Springs facilities.
  • Provide technical expertise in theatrical rigging and assist with rigging operations.
  • Assist with the assembly and disassembly of lighting, sound, scenic elements, risers, band equipment, and other specialized theatrical equipment.
  • Lead and/or assist with the loading and unloading of equipment for visiting artists and production teams.
  • Operate theatrical equipment, including lighting systems, spotlights, audio consoles, video and projection equipment, and moving scenery.
  • Assist with the production of live performances, concerts, and special events.
  • Install, remove, maintain, and properly store stage equipment, scenery, and related production materials.
  • Provide proper maintenance and upkeep of rigging and other theatrical equipment.
  • Assist with lighting and audio/video setup and provide technical support for facility rentals.
  • Help ensure a safe working environment for employees, performers, contractors, and patrons.
  • May serve as Stage Manager and/or Event Lead for assigned events.
  • Read and interpret contracts, technical riders, production plans, schedules, and other event documents to determine equipment and setup requirements.
  • Assist with training and supervising hourly production staff as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with production personnel and other City Springs staff to support a variety of events.
  • Maintain a professional, proactive, and customer-service focused approach when interacting with guests, performers, staff, contractors, and coworkers.
  • Complete required production paperwork, schedules, and related documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
