About The Position

The Staff Vice President, Carelon Health Strategy and Planning will lead the development, alignment, and execution of Carelon Health’s enterprise strategic plan. This role is accountable for translating strategic priorities into clear, actionable plans that advance growth, quality, affordability, clinical performance, and enterprise transformation. Reporting to the President of Carelon Health, this leader will serve as Chief-of-Staff and will serve as a strategic advisor and execution partner to senior leadership, ensuring that clinical, operational, financial, and workforce priorities are integrated and aligned across the business. The role will establish disciplined planning, governance, and performance management processes that enable effective decision-making, accountability, and measurable outcomes. This role will lead high-impact strategic and transformation initiatives, develop data-driven insights, and deliver executive-level communications that clarify priorities, accelerate execution, and support sustained business performance. The leader will build and develop a high-performing team and establish strong partnerships across Carelon and Elevance Health to drive enterprise value and measurable business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Responsibilities

  • Own Carelon Health’s enterprise strategic planning process end to end, including agenda setting, prioritization, leadership alignment, and translation of strategy into executable clinical, financial, operational, and workforce plans.
  • Lead enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, including care model redesign, value-based care expansion, digital health enablement, affordability improvement, and other strategic priorities, with clear accountability for milestones, outcomes, and business impact.
  • Design and manage the enterprise governance model for Carelon Health, ensuring decision rights, performance accountability, risk management, and escalation processes are clearly defined and consistently executed.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and liaison to senior executives across Carelon and Elevance Health, enabling alignment across business units, functions, and enterprise priorities.
  • Integrate clinical, business, financial, and operational initiatives to support seamless execution and improved patient, provider, customer, and business outcomes.
  • Conduct and oversee rigorous analysis of clinical, financial, operational, and market data; translate insights into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Develop executive-level presentations, strategy materials, business reviews, and communications that create clarity, consistency, and alignment across stakeholders.
  • Build a strategic ecosystem of internal and external partners to advance Carelon Health’s growth, quality, affordability, and transformation agenda.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing strategy and planning team, including responsibility for hiring, performance management, talent development, and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, disciplined execution, and continuous improvement across direct and matrixed teams.
  • Travel as needed (approx. 10%).
