About The Position

Moog is seeking a Staff Test Engineer to design Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and test scripts used to validate spacecraft avionics before flight. The engineer owns test solutions end-to-end, including hardware, software, documentation, and testing, supporting mission readiness and customer acceptance. The role is onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, and involves collaboration with systems, firmware, manufacturing test, and program management to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals. Moog provides training on company-specific tools and power architectures, including Intercept Mozaix and EPS, as well as structured onboarding, mentorship, and exposure to multiple spacecraft programs. The position offers a technical progression toward lead or architect EGSE roles and mentoring responsibilities. Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of aerospace/defense test engineering experience with hands-on ownership of EGSE hardware, software, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW for production-grade instrument control and operator interfaces.
  • Proficiency in C for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Perl for test automation and data handling.
  • Practical experience selecting and integrating COTS instruments such as power supplies, loads, DAQ, and oscilloscopes, and designing custom test fixtures and cable assemblies.
  • Ability to write clear Acceptance Test Procedures and Integration & Test plans and maintain accurate schematics and parts lists.
  • Strong debugging skills across analog and digital interfaces; ability to read schematics and interpret telemetry.
  • Must be a U.S. person due to export-controlled work.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with VxWorks on embedded single-board computers.
  • Experience with cPCI single-board computers and Command & Data Handling architectures.
  • Exposure to EPS backplanes, including power switching and solar array/battery management.
  • VHDL/FPGA interface testing experience.
  • Cable/harness design experience and knowledge of EMI/EMC, shielding, and grounding best practices.
  • Experience with Intercept Mozaix or similar schematic, bill-of-materials, and document-control tools.
  • Environmental test support experience, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and EMI/EMC.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build EGSE for spacecraft avionics, including selecting COTS instruments, designing custom test boxes and panels, and developing cabling and harnesses.
  • Develop test software, including LabVIEW interfaces and VIs for instrument control and telemetry, Python and/or Perl automation scripts, and integration with embedded test code in VxWorks/C.
  • Integrate test solutions with flight-like units, including embedded single-board computers and custom analog/digital I/O for Command & Data Handling; support EPS and power-switching use cases.
  • Author formal test documentation, including Integration & Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, Acceptance Test Procedures, and configuration-controlled schematics and bills of materials.
  • Execute and improve test campaigns, including functional and environmental testing; troubleshoot anomalies and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems, firmware, manufacturing test, and program management to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.

Benefits

  • Annual bonuses may be offered.
  • Employee stock purchase plan.
  • Open paid time off policy.
  • Many region-specific benefits.
