About The Position

Moog is hiring a Staff Test Engineer to design and build Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and test scripts used to validate spacecraft avionics. The engineer owns test solutions end to end, including hardware, software, documentation, and testing, with work contributing to mission readiness and customer acceptance. The position is onsite in Phoenix, Arizona and reports to the Manager, Test Engineering. The role involves developing EGSE and test software, integrating with flight-like spacecraft units, authoring formal test documentation, and executing functional and environmental test campaigns. The engineer will troubleshoot anomalies, drive root-cause and corrective actions, collaborate with systems, firmware, manufacturing test, and program management, and mentor junior engineers. Moog provides onboarding, mentorship, and targeted training in its tools and power architectures, including Intercept Mozaix and EPS power switching.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of aerospace/defense test engineering experience with hands-on ownership of EGSE hardware, software, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW for production-grade instrument control and operator interfaces.
  • Proficiency in C for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Perl for test automation and data handling.
  • Practical experience selecting and integrating COTS instruments such as power supplies, loads, data acquisition equipment, and oscilloscopes, and designing custom test fixtures and cable assemblies.
  • Ability to write clear Acceptance Test Procedures and Integration & Test Plans and maintain accurate schematics and parts lists.
  • Strong debugging skills across analog and digital interfaces; ability to read schematics and interpret telemetry.
  • Must be a U.S. person due to export-controlled work.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with VxWorks on embedded single board computers.
  • Experience with cPCI single board computers and Command & Data Handling architectures.
  • Exposure to EPS backplanes, including power switching and solar array/battery management.
  • VHDL/FPGA interface testing experience.
  • Cable/harness design experience and knowledge of EMI/EMC, shielding, and grounding best practices.
  • Experience with Intercept Mozaix or a similar tool for schematic, bill-of-materials, and document control.
  • Environmental test support experience, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build EGSE for spacecraft avionics, including selecting COTS instruments, designing custom test boxes and panels, and developing cabling and harnesses.
  • Develop LabVIEW user interfaces and virtual instruments for instrument control and telemetry.
  • Create test automation scripts in Python and/or Perl and integrate them with embedded test code in VxWorks and C.
  • Interface with embedded single board computers and custom analog/digital I/O for Command & Data Handling; support EPS and power-switching use cases.
  • Prepare Integration & Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, Acceptance Test Procedures, and configuration-controlled schematics and bills of materials.
  • Run functional and environmental test campaigns, troubleshoot anomalies, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with systems, firmware, manufacturing test, and program management to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Annual bonuses may be available.
  • Employee stock purchase plan.
  • Open paid time off policy.
