About The Position

Crusoe is hiring a Staff Systems Engineer, Microsoft Infrastructure to own corporate IT infrastructure end to end, including servers, virtualization, storage, networking, and cloud platforms supporting offices, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and data centers. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role responsible for building, migrating, and supporting servers and serving as the escalation owner when infrastructure issues arise. At the staff level, the engineer will also set infrastructure direction, own the roadmap, prioritize projects, and work with business stakeholders to understand requirements. The role includes solving complex migration challenges, such as moving specialized manufacturing applications with hardware-tied licensing from on-premises servers to cloud environments. The position covers Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure management, on-premises-to-cloud migrations, core compute and storage operations, Azure Arc, infrastructure as code, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration, identity federation, monitoring, backups, disaster recovery, incident response, physical server deployments, and compliance with SOC 2 and SOX controls. Occasional travel to company sites is required. The engineer will also mentor junior IT systems team members and create architecture diagrams and runbooks.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on infrastructure experience, including recent day-to-day ownership of current-version Windows Server environments.
  • Track record of personally migrating production servers and applications from on-premises environments to the cloud, including troubleshooting dependencies and licensing issues.
  • Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform—GCP, Azure, or AWS—sufficient to build, network, and run virtual servers.
  • Solid foundations in storage, virtualization, and networking as they relate to server workloads.
  • Personally written infrastructure as code using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM, plus PowerShell or CLI scripting for automation.
  • Entra ID and Microsoft 365 administration experience, including integrating Entra with Okta or another identity provider.
  • Experience owning backup, disaster recovery, and incident response for production systems.
  • Comfort with hands-on physical server work, including racking, cabling, and firmware, and regular travel to sites.
  • Experience setting technical direction and prioritizing a roadmap while remaining hands-on.
  • Clear, patient communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience migrating specialized or industrial applications, such as manufacturing, CNC, or OT applications, to virtualized or cloud environments.
  • Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-800/801 (Windows Server Hybrid Administrator), or MS-102.
  • Linux server administration in hybrid Windows/Linux environments.
  • Experience supporting new site builds alongside facilities teams, cabling vendors, and ISPs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Sentinel or similar SIEM tooling and log pipelines.
  • Cloud experience across more than one of GCP, Azure, or AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and modernize Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, certificate services, and file infrastructure, across Hyper-V, VMware, and bare-metal systems.
  • Drive on-premises-to-multicloud server migrations to Azure, GCP, and AWS, addressing software dependencies, vendor licensing restrictions, and legacy workloads.
  • Architect and operate core compute, storage, and server networking resources, collaborating with Network Engineering on site connectivity and infrastructure deployments.
  • Deploy Azure Arc to standardize governance, security policies, and operational monitoring across hybrid server environments.
  • Design and maintain infrastructure-as-code configurations using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
  • Oversee Microsoft 365 and Entra ID tenant health, secure access with Conditional Access and MFA, and manage Okta identity federation.
  • Lead system monitoring, backups, disaster recovery strategies, and incident response; serve as the primary escalation point during on-call rotations.
  • Deploy physical servers, including racking, cabling, and provisioning, at corporate offices, data centers, and manufacturing facilities, with occasional site travel.
  • Establish infrastructure roadmaps and technical standards, manage priorities, and ensure compliance with SOC 2 and SOX controls.
  • Mentor junior IT systems team members and produce detailed architecture diagrams and runbooks.
