About The Position

The Staff Software Engineer will join Moloco’s AI Applications team, an extension of the company’s generative AI initiative. The team works in the application delivery layer, closer to users than infrastructure, building AI-powered products and tools to improve Moloco’s internal efficiency, enhance the internal-to-customer experience with generative AI, and—in a lighter initial focus—improve end-customer experiences with AI. Much of the work is greenfield, and engineers own products end-to-end, from identifying problems through launch and ongoing operations. The team aims to change how Moloco operates by redesigning workflows around AI rather than merely automating individual tasks. Its work includes enabling safe AI app development through shared infrastructure and guardrails, rebuilding critical workflows around GenAI, and evaluating, consolidating, or selectively replacing SaaS products where AI-first custom solutions are more appropriate. The team emphasizes outcomes and engineering rigor, while providing common foundations that allow teams to build autonomously. The successful candidate will help shape technical direction in a greenfield environment, establish architecture and standards that other teams can adopt, and build production-scale LLM applications and supporting evaluation and monitoring systems.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • A track record of owning complex, cross-functional systems end-to-end.
  • Deep hands-on experience architecting production-scale LLM-powered applications, such as agentic systems, RAG, or tool-using assistants, and understanding tradeoffs among latency, cost, reliability, and quality.
  • Experience with agent frameworks or orchestration, such as LangGraph or custom agent loops, and multi-step reasoning systems.
  • Proven experience designing evaluation and monitoring systems for AI products that others on the team adopt and build on.
  • Strong systems design skills, including the ability to define architecture and technical standards for multiple teams.
  • Fluency across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, with judgment about where to work deeply versus delegate.
  • Experience influencing technical direction beyond one’s own team, such as setting engineering standards, mentoring senior engineers, or leading technical strategy for a product area.
  • A history of independently identifying high-leverage problems and building conviction with stakeholders and leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or leading internal AI platform capabilities, such as key management, spend caps, permissions, or hosting for AI-developed apps.
  • A track record leading SaaS rationalization or build-versus-buy efforts involving AI-first custom replacements.
  • Experience redesigning a critical business workflow around AI, such as recruiting, customer lifecycle, or planning and forecasting.
  • Prior experience in a platform- or infrastructure-adjacent role that also required strong product instincts.
  • Public or internal thought leadership on agent architectures, evaluations, or applied LLM engineering practices.
  • Comfort operating with minimal process, setting technical direction in a greenfield environment, and shaping team practices as they scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI-powered products and tools that improve Moloco’s internal operating efficiency.
  • Improve internal-to-customer experiences using generative AI and contribute to customer-facing AI experiences.
  • Own products end-to-end, from problem identification through launch and ongoing operations.
  • Architect and deliver production-scale LLM-powered applications, including agentic systems, RAG, and tool-using assistants.
  • Design evaluation and monitoring systems for AI products that can be adopted and extended by other team members.
  • Define architecture and technical standards for shared infrastructure, guardrails, and APIs that multiple teams can use autonomously.
  • Identify high-leverage problems independently and build stakeholder and leadership conviction around solutions.
  • Influence technical direction beyond the immediate team through engineering standards, mentoring, and product-area technical strategy.
  • Help enable safe AI app development through capabilities such as key management, spend limits, permissions, provisioning, and app hosting.
  • Contribute to GenAI-first workflow redesign and SaaS evaluation, consolidation, or replacement where appropriate.
