Staff AI-CAD Applications Engineer

Lam Research•Fremont, CA
•$141,000 - $307,000

About The Position

The Staff AI-CAD Applications Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven automation and intelligence in CAD and engineering workflows. The role combines mechanical/electrical engineering, CAD system customization, and applied AI/ML to transform rule-based CAD automation into data-driven engineering systems. The engineer will apply language models, Agentic AI, generative AI, machine learning, and optimization to engineering challenges such as design validation, configuration, routing, change management, and knowledge reuse. The position may also involve Digital Twin and Virtual Twin CAD visualization with AI-derived data analytics. The role includes developing and maintaining customized CAD tools, connecting CAD applications to PLM and enterprise systems, and building data pipelines that enable AI models to operate in production CAD environments. The engineer will serve as an AI/CAD subject matter expert, partner with engineering, IT, product groups, and AI teams, mentor other engineers and developers, and develop CAD AI strategies and roadmaps. Success will be measured by reduced engineering cycle time, greater automation coverage and model quality, adoption of AI tools, and improvements in design consistency, product quality, development lead time, and compliance. This position is part of Lam Research’s Global Products Group, which designs and engineers etch and deposition products for the semiconductor industry. Lam describes its work-location models as hybrid options, but the specific model for this position is not stated. The posted salary range is $141,000 to $307,000 for applicants residing in California and most states; actual offers depend on factors including location, level, education, training, skills, experience, and internal comparisons. Lam states that it offers a comprehensive set of benefits, without listing specific benefits in the posting.
