Staff Software Engineer - AI Applications
About The Position
The Staff Software Engineer will join Moloco’s AI Applications team, an extension of the company’s generative AI initiative. The team works in the user-facing delivery layer of the AI stack, building AI-powered products and tools to make Moloco operate more efficiently, improve the internal-to-customer experience through generative AI, and, initially to a lesser extent, improve the end-customer experience. Much of the work is greenfield, and engineers own products end-to-end, from identifying problems through launch and ongoing operations. The team’s broader mission is to redesign how work gets done at Moloco using AI, guided by an outcomes-first approach and shared foundations that let teams build autonomously. Its priorities include enabling safe AI app development with infrastructure and guardrails, rebuilding critical workflows around generative AI, and evaluating opportunities to consolidate or replace SaaS products with AI-first custom solutions.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of complex, cross-functional systems end-to-end.
- Deep hands-on experience architecting production-scale LLM-powered applications, such as agentic systems, RAG, or tool-using assistants, including tradeoffs among latency, cost, reliability, and quality.
- Experience with agent frameworks or orchestration, such as LangGraph or custom agent loops, and multi-step reasoning systems.
- Proven experience designing evaluation and monitoring systems for AI products that other team members adopt and build on.
- Strong systems design skills, including defining architecture and technical standards that multiple teams can build on autonomously.
- Fluency across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, with judgment about where to go deep and where to delegate.
- Experience influencing technical direction beyond one’s own team, such as setting engineering standards, mentoring senior engineers, or leading product-area technical strategy.
- A track record of independently identifying high-leverage problems and building conviction with stakeholders and leadership.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building or leading internal AI platform capabilities such as key management, spend caps, permissioning, and hosting for AI-developed apps.
- Track record of leading SaaS rationalization or build-versus-buy efforts involving AI-first custom replacements.
- Experience redesigning a critical business workflow around AI rather than merely automating a task, such as recruiting, customer lifecycle, or planning and forecasting.
- Prior experience in a platform or infrastructure-adjacent role that also required strong product instincts.
- Public or internal thought leadership on agent architectures, evaluations, or applied LLM engineering practices.
- Comfort operating with minimal process, setting technical direction in a greenfield environment, and shaping team practices as they scale.
Responsibilities
- Own AI-powered products and tools end-to-end, from identifying problems through launch and ongoing operations.
- Build solutions that improve Moloco’s internal efficiency and the internal-to-customer experience using generative AI.
- Contribute to improving the end-customer experience with AI.
- Design shared infrastructure, guardrails, APIs, and technical standards that allow teams to build autonomously.
- Help enable safe AI app development through capabilities such as hosting, key management, spend caps, permissions, and provisioning.
- Redesign critical business workflows around AI, including workflows such as customer lifecycle management, recruiting, planning, and forecasting.
- Evaluate, consolidate, or selectively replace SaaS products where AI-first custom solutions are a better fit.
