About The Position

Waters Biosciences (formally BD Biosciences) is currently seeking Staff Software Engineer to join our exciting and growing team. At Waters Biosciences you will have the opportunity to create software applications that are used to help all people live healthy lives. The Staff Engineer - Software is responsible for defining, determining, and conveying critical design factors and system/technical architecture for software products and complex systems. Regularly involved in key technical decisions affecting software products or pertaining to software development. Receives limited direction and is expected to help set own goals through knowledge of Segment and Business Unit strategy, plans, and goals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of software development experience, including object-oriented design and object-oriented programming, is required.
  • Extensive experience with C#/.NET development is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with web development technologies is required, including C#, TypeScript, Angular, HTML, ASP.NET, CSS3, SignalR, WebAPI, unit test frameworks, SQL Server databases, and microservices architecture.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and implementing complex software applications is highly desired.
  • The ideal candidate is action-oriented, results-focused, and demonstrates a positive work ethic with a strong commitment to achieving project goals.
  • Experience working in a regulated (FDA) environment with medical instrumentation is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes is preferred.
  • Experience developing software for flow cytometers or other related medical devices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and document software products.
  • Build unit tests and API tests to automate software testing.
  • Research, recommend, estimate, prototype, and implement solutions that address product, technology, and technical challenges.
  • Work with cross-functional project teams to develop and deliver frequent, high-quality product releases for flow cytometry instruments.
  • Work with the Project Manager and Product Owner to establish project milestones and timelines, drive estimation, and set priorities.
  • Implement designs for new software products and enhancements to existing products.
  • Recommend design direction or modifications for software system components.
  • Develop features across multiple subsystems within the software application, including device communication, business logic, and user interface layers.
  • Collaborate on requirements definition and the establishment of software specifications.
  • Understand how the software application operates, how it is structured, and how customers use it.
  • Mentor other software developers to create high-quality, robust software.
  • Monitor work progress against schedule commitments and report progress to leadership in a timely manner, including when work will not be completed according to schedule milestones.
  • Conduct code inspections and technical reviews
