About The Position

SafeLease is looking for a driven Staff Software Engineer. In this role, you’ll work across the entire stack building, testing, and shipping features. You'll collaborate closely with company leadership, playing a key role in solving high-impact technical challenges and shaping the future of our platform. Joining our Engineering team at this stage means your work will have a huge influence on future engineers, the codebase, and company culture. This role is based out of our downtown Austin office, hybrid schedule, after onboarding. To drive our mission forward, this role will: Lead development across products — Architect, build, and ship high-quality code across our entire platform, setting the standard for technical excellence Design scalable, elegant solutions — Collaborate with Product to solve complex problems with simple, customer-centric features Own issue resolution — Triage, prioritize, and resolve system level issues while guiding others on best practices for quality and reliability Champion continuous improvement — Proactively identify opportunities to improve system performance, code health, and team efficiency Advocate for the user — Build with empathy and a deep understanding of customer needs, ensuring every solution adds meaningful value Mentor and elevate others — Share expertise, coach teammates, and help shape a culture of learning, growth, and technical rigor

Requirements

  • 7+ years in a full-stack software development role with a track record of owning and delivering complex features or systems at scale
  • Degree in CS/EE
  • Deep proficiency with Frontend (TypeScript, JavaScript, React), Backend (Node.js, Express.js, REST APIs), and Infrastructure (Relational databases, Git, AWS) systems and languages
  • Track record of learning best-in-class tools, including but not limited to: Linear, Claude Code, and other rapidly advancing AI tools
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead discussions with cross-functional stakeholders, drive alignment, and mentor peers

Nice To Haves

  • DevOps-related experience is a plus—skills that go beyond just writing code and own how that code runs in production
