Staff Software Engineer

XometryWaltham, MA
$170,000 - $195,000Hybrid

About The Position

Xometry powers the industries of today and tomorrow by connecting the people with big ideas to the manufacturers who can bring them to life. Xometry’s digital marketplace gives manufacturers the critical resources they need to grow their business while also making it easy for buyers at Fortune 1000 companies to tap into global manufacturing capacity. Xometry is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Platform team. This role is a strategic technical leadership position focused on the architectural evolution of our flagship enterprise partnership. While our current plug-ins function as external add-ons, you will be responsible for re-architecting Xometry’s core application services to live natively within our partner's digital ecosystem. You will shape the technical direction of multiple products, establishing the engineering patterns that allow Xometry’s AI—trained on millions of parts—to operate directly on our partner's native 3D geometry. Your goal is to move the architectural framework toward a "target state" where users experience zero-latency DFM feedback and one-click procurement without ever leaving their primary enterprise design environment. This role requires a hybrid schedule (3 days a week) at our North Bethesda, MD or Waltham, MA office location.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional software development experience, with a history of scaling complex platforms.
  • Expert-level mastery of Python, AWS infrastructure, and modern frontend frameworks (React/NextJS) used for complex enterprise applications.
  • Proven experience shaping the technical direction of multiple teams and establishing engineering patterns as organizational standards.
  • A track record of securing endorsement for 6-12 month initiatives and driving them to successful production deployment.
  • The ability to influence senior leadership and external partners on technical strategy and long-term technology investments.
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in building "Software as a Service" (SaaS) platforms or complex B2B integration hubs.
  • Experience with manufacturing, logistics, or CAD/PLM software ecosystems.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise data controls, dedicated tenants, and SOC2/ISO compliance within a cloud environment.
  • Experience architecting large-scale ML platforms or high-frequency marketplace engines.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-performance solutions that extend beyond a single org, establishing the organizational standards for how Xometry-AI is embedded into external PLM environments.
  • Advance our architectural framework to ensure it is extensible, scalable, and adheres to strict enterprise SLIs/SLOs.
  • Lead the effort to integrate production ML pipelines into the application layer, ensuring the "science fiction speed" promised in our vision is realized through optimized model serving and real-time geometry analysis.
  • Champion AI-assisted development practices across the team, actively mentoring engineers on effective use of AI tools to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and reduce toil.
  • Solve significant and unique challenges regarding data gravity and security.
  • Create formal networks between our partner's and Xometry’s engineering groups to develop new ways of conducting operations—specifically regarding "ring-fenced" data governance where part files remain securely within the partner's network infrastructure.
  • Establish the strategic direction and leading the execution of this core integration.
  • Act as a technical and business role model, ensuring that the integration of DFM (Manufacturability) and IQE (Pricing) AI engines creates a distinct, defensible edge for the partnership.
  • Facilitate technical discourse across the entire Xometry organization, leading to durable, well-documented decisions.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for senior leadership, guiding risk/reward conversations and championing cross-functional development across our marketplace and data science teams.
  • Define the reliability and security standards for our enterprise-grade deployments, whether partner-hosted or Xometry-hosted, ensuring seamless multi-tenant management.
