About The Position

The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business goals and engineering excellence. The engineer applies data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality software products. This team supports Walmart International’s operations across more than 5,200 retail units in 23 countries, including Canada, India, Mexico, and South Africa. It delivers scalable software solutions through collaborative engineering and advanced technologies, managing the full development lifecycle from design to deployment. Focused on technical excellence, continuous improvement, and clear communication, the team ensures reliable, efficient systems that meet customer, associate, and business needs. By integrating cloud-native architecture and data-driven decision making, the team plays a vital role in advancing Walmart’s global retail presence and evolving business objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Employ performance, A/B tests, web vitals, front end optimization regularly
  • Proficiency in software design patterns and software prototyping to deliver secure, modular, and maintainable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply data-driven decision making to define success metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions to promote technical excellence and sustainability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, communicating complex technical concepts clearly to wide-range of stakeholders.
  • Experience with production system monitoring and operations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for innovation and continuous learning
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise in software engineering best practices and contribute to the development and improvement of engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with architects, product managers, and engineering teams to design and build scalable products.
  • Deliver high-quality technical designs and production-ready code in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Implement unit tests, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes across development, QA, and production environments.
  • Maintain production stability and monitoring, ensuring high system availability.
  • Troubleshoot production and business issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.
  • Apply an AI-first development approach, leveraging AI tools and agents to accelerate development and automation.
  • Utilize agentic AI platforms for workflow automation and enterprise integrations.
