About The Position

The Trajectory Generation and Controls (TG&C) team develops the trajectory generation, optimization, and controls components that determine how autonomous trucks drive. The Staff Software Engineer will deliver real-time, safety-critical software from solution design through implementation, integration, and deployment, helping provide a safe, well-controlled, and comfortable vehicle experience. The role collaborates with teams across Autonomy, Systems Engineering, and Operations, with an emphasis on safety, principled engineering, and customer-oriented solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience building motion-planning and/or control systems for real-world applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with optimal control or dynamic optimization, particularly model predictive control or real-time trajectory generation.
  • Knowledge and experience with vehicle dynamics, system identification, and real-time control algorithms.
  • Fluency in modern C++.
  • Experience with Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree.
  • Experience with large ground vehicles.
  • Experience with optimization algorithms such as sequential quadratic programming or interior point methods.
  • Experience with tooling and metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of TG&C features from design through integration, providing a well-controlled, safe, and comfortable vehicle experience.
  • Contribute to team roadmaps and help ensure timely feature delivery.
  • Work with systems engineers to deliver a safe, well-tested product.
  • Develop software using modern C++ and Python, making extensive use of unit testing, simulation, and log simulation.
  • Collaborate with other Autonomy teams, including Constraint Generation, Trajectory Selection, World Fusion, Prediction, Perception, Localization, and Calibration, to design and deploy robust autonomous-driving solutions.
  • Participate in design and iteration exercises and align stakeholders using strong presentation and communication skills.
