About The Position

Stack is developing AI and autonomous systems for the trucking transportation industry. The Staff Software Engineer will help develop and deploy motion-planning components for autonomous trucks, working across the development lifecycle to design, implement, test, and evaluate features that affect on-road performance. The role involves owning complex technical challenges end to end, including defining ambiguous vehicle behaviors, coordinating interfaces with upstream and downstream teams, and delivering high-performance modern C++ software for compute-constrained platforms. The engineer will own motion-planning feature delivery from design through integration, contributing to a safe and smooth trajectory for the autonomous system. The role also contributes to long-term architecture and roadmap decisions, collaborates with systems and verification engineers, and works across autonomy teams to design and deploy robust solutions. Testing and validation rely extensively on unit testing, simulation, and log simulation. The position requires strong communication and presentation skills to support design and iteration exercises and align stakeholders. Stack states that it is an equal opportunity workplace committed to inclusion, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The position may be subject to national security-related requirements and U.S. export control restrictions, including verification of residence, U.S. person status, or citizenship status and, where applicable, government export licensing.

Requirements

  • Strong C++ and Python skills, particularly in resource-constrained environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing code for real-world robotics or semi-autonomous platforms.
  • Eagerness to work across the decision-making stack, including components outside prior areas of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of motion-planning features from design through integration to address on-vehicle problems and customer needs, meet product and planning-system requirements, and provide a safe, smooth trajectory.
  • Help shape the long-term architecture and roadmap while ensuring timely feature delivery.
  • Work with systems engineers to deliver a safe, well-tested product.
  • Write clean, maintainable, high-performance software using modern C++ and Python.
  • Collaborate with other autonomy teams, including trajectory generation, trajectory evaluation, world fusion, prediction, perception, localization, and mapping, to design and deploy robust autonomous-driving solutions.
  • Work with verification teams to test and validate motion-planning modules.
  • Use unit testing, simulation, and log simulation extensively.
  • Participate in design and iteration exercises and help align stakeholders through effective presentations and communication.
