About The Position

Stack is developing AI and advanced autonomous systems to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern operations, with technology tailored to the trucking transportation industry. The Trajectory Generation and Controls (TG&C) team owns the trajectory generation, optimization, and controls components that determine how autonomous trucks drive. In this role, you will work across the software development cycle, from solution design through implementation and deployment. You will deliver TG&C features and collaborate with teams across Autonomy, Systems Engineering, and Operations to develop safe, reliable, and comfortable vehicle behavior. The position calls for real-world experience in motion planning, optimization, and/or controls, along with a record of deploying real-time, safety-critical software to production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience building motion-planning and/or control systems for real-world applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with optimal control or dynamic optimization, especially model predictive control or real-time trajectory generation.
  • Knowledge and experience with vehicle dynamics, system identification, and real-time control algorithms.
  • Fluency in modern C++.
  • Experience with Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree.
  • Experience with large ground vehicles.
  • Experience with optimization algorithms such as sequential quadratic programming or interior point methods.
  • Experience with tooling and metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Own the delivery of TG&C features from design through integration, supporting a well-controlled, safe, and comfortable vehicle experience.
  • Provide input to team roadmaps and help ensure timely feature delivery.
  • Work with systems engineers to deliver a safe, well-tested product.
  • Develop software using modern C++ and Python.
  • Use unit testing, simulation, and log simulation extensively.
  • Collaborate with other Autonomy teams, including Constraint Generation, Trajectory Selection, World Fusion, Prediction, Perception, Localization, and Calibration, to design and deploy robust autonomous-driving solutions.
  • Participate in design and iteration exercises and help align stakeholders through strong presentation and communication.
