About The Position

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical anchor for our engineering organization. In this role, you will move beyond individual contribution to drive architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and lead the technical direction of our core platforms. You will act as a "Tech Lead of Tech Leads," working across squads to solve complex distributed system challenges while ensuring our platform remains scalable, secure, and performant. While this is an Individual Contributor (IC) role, you will be expected to mentor senior engineers and partner closely with Product and Engineering leadership. As a Staff Engineer, you won't just use AI tools—you will architect the foundations, developer harnesses, and domain-specific skills that make AI a reliable, high-impact force multiplier across our entire engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years operating at a Senior, Lead, or Staff level.
  • Deep expertise in Java (8/11/17+), including memory management, concurrency/multithreading, and JVM tuning.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security.
  • Extensive experience designing systems on AWS. Comfortable with ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, RDS, and DynamoDB.
  • Proven track record of architecting distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and RESTful/gRPC APIs that handle high throughput.
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment, propose long-term technical strategies, and mentor engineers across multiple squads through shift-changes in tech stack or paradigms.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL modeling.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the Healthcare/HealthTech industry is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance, HL7, FHIR standards, or EMR/EHR integrations.
  • Experience using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience setting up monitoring using Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or ELK Stack.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect healthcare application using Java (Spring Boot) and AWS.
  • Act as the "go-to" person for the hardest technical challenges.
  • Stay hands-on (approx. 40-50% coding), writing critical path code, POCs, and reviewing complex PRs.
  • Define and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and quality gates.
  • Lead technical grooming sessions and architecture reviews.
  • Elevate the team’s technical bar.
  • Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design discussions.
  • Champion DevOps culture.
  • Own the reliability, observability, and performance of production systems (CI/CD, monitoring, alerting).
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business value for stakeholders.
  • Work with Product Managers to assess feasibility and trade-offs.
  • Design and build robust, scalable developer harnesses and evaluation pipelines (Evals) to fine-tune, evaluate, and deploy domain-specific AI models and agents safely and efficiently.
  • Translate complex domain knowledge and proprietary business logic into structured, reusable toolsets, prompt frameworks, and APIs ("skills") that enable AI models to perform specialized engineering and business tasks.
