About The Position
As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving full lifecycle software development with a focus on cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration. You will influence technical decisions, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. Emphasizing quality through thorough testing and continuous integration, the team manages application maintenance, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting to meet business and technical objectives. Focused on continuous improvement and knowledge sharing, the team drives innovation and operational excellence in software engineering while aligning efforts with organizational goals.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
- Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including CI/CD deployment, observability, and maintenance.
- Skilled in DevOps engineering practices and tooling to enhance engineering productivity and developer experience.
- Ability to apply data-driven decision making to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
- Experience conducting design reviews and driving engineering excellence through continuous improvement and error correction.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining efforts to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
Responsibilities
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Lead system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and data-driven practices.
