Deploy is an intelligence infrastructure platform that provides developers and enterprises access to open-source and proprietary AI models. Its offerings include optimized model inference for leading open-source LLMs and proprietary models for content safety, AI and deepfake detection, sponsorship intelligence, and IP and publicity protection. Deploy has raised more than $200 million and has more than 250 employees across offices in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Delhi. Deploy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build and improve backend systems and APIs. The role involves launching products and features into production, working autonomously, and addressing challenges of scale. The ideal candidate has built core services and web-based APIs from the ground up, cares about both product and technology, and writes clean, maintainable code. The position contributes to backend systems including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing, and distributed task and job processing. The engineer will improve product and engineering practices, debug production issues, participate in on-call rotations as needed, and follow security and information-protection policies. The expected base salary range is $200,000–$300,000. Stock options may be offered in addition to base pay; actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
At least 8 years of experience building web applications.
Experience successfully implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
Experience delivering scalable backend APIs.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
Interest and ability to learn other coding languages.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, or improve features in backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task/job processing systems.
Write and maintain scalable, performant, secure code that can be shared across platforms.
Contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvements.
Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
Practice test-driven development.
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed to ensure prompt and effective resolution of critical technical issues.
Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code from vulnerabilities.
Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance handling as it relates to the role.
Adhere to policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
Report actual or suspected security and/or policy violations or breaches to an appropriate authority.
